Can't wait!

There's something to be said for working 4 days rather than the five day week I'd done for 31 years. I now have flexible Fridays off (which means I can have another day if i wish). So today I shall be sorting myself out in preparation for tomorrow when I shall be at

Looking forward to seeing lots of you there for vintage loveliness and quite possibly cake...not to mention barkcloth and buttons - two of my favourite "B" words

Once home I shall be getting excited about my second workshop with the lovely Julie Arkell at the Hope and Elvis workshops. And if anyone is envious, Louise of Hope and Elvis said yesterday that there was still a space left on tomorrow's workshop. I had a wonderful day last year so can't wait.

And on Monday I shall be moving my flexible friend Friday to Monday and going back to school where I'm attempting to teach children one end of a needle from the other in a bid to make puppets. Isn't it funny how we take our own skills for granted? I have no idea where I learnt to sew - school sewing lessons were a nightmare I recall - I had no desire to make either the mandatory dirdl skirt or the mop top lampshade. I got so cross with my teacher that when she asked me once too often to unpick my work I cut it into ribbons. My parents were contacted...

Have a great weekend!

Love Wend

  1. I wish that I had taken sewing at school. I used to be quite good at it but my mum said that this would not help me in life(!) and so I ended up taking french at 'O' level - which I hated and failed - got a 'D'. Mind you I did do quite well in other subjects and got to Uni but I still wish that I could go back in time and swap french for sewing!

  6. Have a lovely time at the fair! Wish I could be there.

I hated sewing lessons at school, my teacher was a complete witch! Luckily, having a sewing mum, I foisted all my sewing homework onto her!

  8. Wend, I still have a strop on when my teacher Debs makes me unpick things I've done wrong. I have a double first in "That'll do!"

Julie Arkell - more great photo's like the last time please. That's how I first found you, I googled her and along the way your blog popped up. Funny old life! Have a great weekend. LLX

  9. My school had a purpose built area called 'the flat' .... it was exactly like a bed sitting room would be and the home economics (cookery) and sewing classrooms were all off this room. Our teacher was close to retirement and she used to have this oily substance on her hair which stank! We made a PE bag and a fetching grey apron for cookery lessons. I've taught myself since then. I'm just getting everything ready to load the car for tomorrow .... see you then xx

  11. I had a sewing teacher who picked out one person in each class for ridicule (me, unfortunately, though my friends were very kind and didn't laugh). She would hold up whatever I was attempting to do and announce 'Come and see what this silly little madam is doing!' It's wonder that I sew at all, but I learn't to spite her I think..

  12. Hope you do well at the Fair. My sewing lessons at school produce a 'smock top' with proper smocking done by me age 13 ... when smock tops were in the first time round in the 70s. It was actually very good!

  15. It all sounds lovely Wend. Hope the fair and the course make for a special weekend for you. What surprised me most is that you've been working full time for 31 years - did you start straight from primary school?!! Please show us what you make with Julie Arkell! Lesley

  16. What lovely events to look forward to. Teachers and their methods can have such an impact on us. A science teacher ruined science for me, after a public humiliation it never was the same again. However, a great cookery teacher has left me loving to cook......... I echo Lesley in her request to see what you make on the Julie Arkell day...........
